Bird’s Nest Children’s Home

The Bird’s Nest Children’s Home is a house for vulnerable children, which provides a loving, and warm environment with a caring ‘house mother’ to look after some of the most isolated children in the village. It is right at the heart of Himalaya Anandit Shakti’s work in Lamagaon, and is one of our most important and successful projects.

The need for the Bird’s Nest was apparent when Himalaya Anandit Shakti first began working with the village ten years ago, where there were many orphaned and neglected children, who weren’t able to attend school or receive decent care.

The Bird’s Nest was jointly made possible by Himalayan Hope and Himalaya Anandit Shakti, through large donations raised from Himalayan Hope supporters. We bought the land in 2007, and construction of the orphanage finished a year later. It is now a happy home to 10 children, who all receive healthy meals, sponsored education and medical support, and all the warmth of living in the centre of a flourishing community. More recently, a bunch of volunteers living in the village built the incredible bamboo playground, ‘Foreverland’ for kids and adults alike to play on.

It has taken a long time to create this joyful environment for the young people in Lamagon, with plenty of hard work going into building, constructing, visioning and maintaining all of the infrastructure and support needed. The Bird’s Nest has a lot of ongoing costs to make sure that all of this is sustainable, and can always do with more help.
