The Montessori Preschool is our newest and biggest project so far. Until the construction of this kindergarten and primary school began in 2010, the youngest kids in the village had to travel further away to attend school, if their families could pay for their admission at all. The school is unique in its teaching style, which is based on Montessori principles of Self Construction, Liberty, and Spontaneous Activity. Additionally to this it is the only school in the area which is free to attend, also providing the children with all of their education materials, clothing and daily meals for free.
The school is currently running with 23 small toddlers in one group and next year will expand to 40 children in two classes.
The Montessori Pre-School is still in need of a lot of materials to make it a complete, safe and creative learning environment.
The plan is for the school to be a sustainable building, powered by solar energy, and where as much of the food as possible comes from organic vegetables grown in the village. To make all of this possible, the villagers still need:
- Montessori education materials
- Donations of books for a children’s library
- Beds for the kids’ naps
- Tables
- Kitchen Equipment
- Playground Equipment
- A fence
- A solar panel system
- Water tank
- Computers
Any help in buying these materials would be much appreciated by all in the village, or equally if you have any of the materials on the list to donate it would be fantastic!
