Year Round Projects

Vocational Training

Supporting the villagers to find their vocational interests and then pursue them autonomously is of great importance to Himalayan Hope. There are a number of programs running in the village to provide such opportunities to people of all ages. The main area of vocational support so far has been in handicrafts, embroidery, and tailoring.

This is because these are particular skills of Dayan of Himalaya Anandit Shakti. Dayan has been supporting local people to learn how to make bespoke clothing and designs for handicrafts which can then be sold to generate income. There is now a full tailor workshop in place and a women’s group who meet regularly to knit woollen hats and other garments.

Other Vocational Training has included gardening skills, farming, building and construction, cooking, learning English, driving, sponsoring individuals to attend university or college courses & using computers.

Organic Food Production and the Community Seed Bank

Ensuring  the village has adequate nourishment is an important and ongoing job for Himalaya Anandit Shakti. Since they starting working with the village ten years ago, one of the first priorities was to establish a thriving organic farm to produce healthy, wholesome and sustainable food for everyone who lives in the community. This has also meant that the knowledge of using organic farming systems and growing diverse crops is being shared with as many people as possible, and the villagers are establishing a seed bank to make sure the food systems continue healthily for generations to come.

Organic foods produced in the village now include vegetables, fruits, cow and buffalo milk and even mushrooms.

Education Sponsorship

Himalayan Hope also sponsors the education of children in the village outside of those who live in the Bird’s Nest Kids House or attend the Montessori Pre-School. Schools, and Universities in Nepal are expensive to attend and many cannot afford their children’s educational expenses which include food, clothing, materials and travel to and from school. We try where possible to provide funds to make this more possible and affordable for families in the village and surrounding area.
